Alright we are about there.  After many delays I am finishing things up on Dorthia Cottrell‘s debut self-titled LP.  CDs start shipping as of today, LPs will begin shipping the first week of April.  I am going to sweeten up all pre-orders with some extra goodies as an apology and a thank you for your patience.  In addition anyone who ordered as of this post will be entered to win a test press of the record.  Forcefield will announce the winner via its Instagram this Sunday from Dorthia’s “record release” show at Strange Matter.  It will be picked at random and just be an order confirmation number so dig yours out of your email.  I appreciate everything and if anyone has any issues or hasn’t received an e-mail with a download code please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.  We are already planning a new pressing so at least you got the first pressing for all you collectors ;).  Dorthia also recently announced a bunch of dates including a tour with USX’s Nate Hall.   I have set aside copies of the first pressing for her.

Windhand’s fervent and visceral front woman, Dorthia Cottrell is set to release her debut self-titled record, due out March 3rd on Forcefield Records. The songs on the album span a full decade, with Dorthia’s palpable vocals pushing into a new realm of folk. Hear it for yourself with her leading song “Gold”.

Dorthia Cottrell grew up in the rural town of King George, Virginia. She got her start playing music on piano as a child, singing alongside her grandmother or dad while he played guitar. In her early teens she finally picked up a guitar and wrote her first song which eventually carried her onto Richmond where she found herself a Windhand’s

powerful leading lyricist. Dorthia’s somber acoustic music has been described as grieving and sparse, with a nod in the direction of Townes Van Zandt and Gram Parsons, whose “Rake” and “A Song For You” she covers on her debut album.
